Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Wednesday made it clear that the party remains open for an alliance with Congress and other like-minded parties in Goa against the BJP.

“We have not yet taken any final decision on Goa polls. But we are open for an alliance with like minded parties against the BJP,” he stated.

The final decision is expected to be adopted by NCP six months prior to the Goa Assembly polls.

Previously, the newly appointed NCP observer for Goa, Narendra Verma, had reiterated NCP’s stance on forging an alliance with like-minded and secular political parties.

The NCP chief arrived in Goa on Wednesday and is expected to hold a series of meetings with the executive committee members of the party’s Goa office. The party leaders will huddle and deliberate on strategies for the upcoming Assembly polls.

Meanwhile, responding to a query about the dual standards adopted by NCP’s lone MLA in Goa Assembly, Churchill Alemao, Pawar said, “Question doesn’t arise of our association with the BJP. But if suppose, it is an issue in the larger interest of the state, on that issue, one can take a decision.”
