2 bike-borne men snatch gold chain, Mangalsutra

In two separate incidents, bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain and a Mangalsutra all worth Rs 3.50 lakh from two different women at Khorlim, Mapusa and Assagao on Wednesday.

Both incidents happened within a gap of two hours and on the same route of Mapsua-Assagao.

Also in both cases, the rider was wearing a helmet while the pillion rider a mask.

In the first incident, two persons in the guise of seeking an address snatched a gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh from a 65-year-old woman at Khorlim, Mapusa.

The incident happened early morning at around 6.45 am when the complainant, Madhuri Verlekar, had gone for a morning walk near her house in Khorlim.

According to police, two persons came on a two-wheeler and on the pretext of asking for an address showed a piece of paper to the complainant and in the process snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled.

One of the accused was wearing a helmet while the other had covered his face with a mask, police informed.

Mapusa Police have registered an offence under relevant sections against unknown persons.

In the second incident, bike-borne miscreants snatched a Mangalsutra worth Rs 2.50 lakh from a 53-year-old woman in Assagao.

Anjuna Police informed that the complainant was walking by the side of the road when all of a sudden, two persons came on a bike, snatched her Mangalsutra and sped away.

Incidentally, as in the first case the rider was wearing a helmet and the pillion rider a mask.

Police have verified two CCTV cameras from the vicinity but failed to get any lead.

“We could not identify the bike number nor the faces of the accused from the footage,” a police official informed.

Anjuna Police have registered an offence under relevant sections against unknown persons.

Further investigations are on.
