50 farmers submit ccompensation claims in South Goa

During the current financial year some farmers suffered losses due to cyclone tauktae and flooding in July around 50 farmers have submitted their claims for compensation 

under the Shetkari Adhar Nidhi Scheme for which the settlement of claims in under process, according to a Zonal Agriculture Office press release. 

The recent rains in September have also damaged paddy crop in select places for which it is requested the submit the applications which will be processed as per scheme guidelines.

Last financial year a total of Rs 20 lakhs was disbursed as crop compensation to 269 farmers  in Salcete and Mormugao taluka covering an area of  around 80 hectares. 

All those farmers who have applied with proper documents have been given compensation. Every government office has established procedure to claim any benefits which are mandated by checks at various levels to ensure accountability and proper audit of public funds. The subsidy is not disbursed in form of cash but in bank account of concerned beneficiary. Sometimes farmers withdraw the amount without realizing it is the subsidy amount.  

Also some farmers claim paddy support price and for the same survey number they claim compensation which contradicts their loss claim. The officials are vigilant to weed out such cases ensuring accountability. 

The office of the Zonal Agriculture Office is centrally located so it is accessible to farmers from Arossim, Cansaulim and Velim areas and many farmers from such places have applied for crop compensation. It is kindly requested to submit applications with proper documents immediately in near future. 

Shetkari Adhar Nidhi Scheme offers compensation to farmers for various crops for damage due to natural calamities. The claim has to be filed within 7 days as per scheme guidelines. The documents required are: filled in application form, one revenue stamp, copy of the Krishi card and 2-3 photographs of the damaged crop with applicant standing in the background. 

For paddy crop Rs 25,000 per hectare is fixed as compensation. The rates of compensation are proposed to be revised to Rs 40.000 per hectare and the process is currently on.
