Covid active cases in Canacona rose to 82 on Tuesday, even as police have begun strict action against those found violating standard operating procedures in the taluka.
According to the official bulletin, the Covid cases recorded by the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) were 74 on Sunday, 71 on Monday and 84 on Tuesday.
According to sources, five new cases were detected in Canacona late Tuesday evening, comprising 3 from Chiplem-Poinguinim and 2 from Palolem in Canacona municipality.
It is learnt that people with fever and other symptoms have been visiting the CHC for Covid tests.
Meanwhile, acting on directives from Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, authorities have begun strict action against those found violating standard operating procedures in the taluka. Police teams have been patrolling the streets in and around prominent places, fining those found without face masks in public spaces such as market places, fish stalls, shops and playgrounds, sources said.
