Agonda murder accused uncooperative: Police

Canacona police may have secured the custody of the accused in connection with the murder of his wife at Agonda, but the accused is reportedly not cooperating with the police.

The Canacona Judicial Magistrate First Class remanded Alfred Pereira (43) to six days in police custody after he was arrested on charges of shooting dead his wife, Sonia Monterio e Pereira (33), at the gate of their house at Agonda on Saturday night.

Canacona Police Inspector and Investigation Officer Tulsidas Naik told The Goan that the accused is not cooperating with police investigations into the source of the gun used in the murder.

“The accused is not cooperating and not giving us proper information. Though the accused has been remanded 6 days in police custody, we may consider seeking further police custody of the accused if he continues to be uncooperative. We are investigating every angle of the murder are in progress and we are confident of obtaining information,” said PI Naik.

Sources said a few friends of the accused were summoned to the police station, after the accused had allegedly named them in connection with the gun.

Meanwhile, an autopsy of the deceased will be conducted on Tuesday.

“We had gone to Margao today, but the post mortem is fixed for Tuesday and only then will the body be handed over to the family for final rites,” said PI Naik.

The final rites are expected to take place at the Agonda Church on Tuesday evening.
