At a time when the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has been hit by a financial crisis and is struggling to recover its dues, the chief officers are frequently being changed and Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat was transferred out of the council on Tuesday.
Demands for a dedicated chief officer for a prolonged tenure seems to be a distant dream as there would have been eight chief officers at the MMC in recent years.
In an order issued by the Department of Personnel on Tuesday, MMC Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat is now transferred as Additional Secretary (Home), while Jayant G Tari, Director (Admin) Electricity Department will now take over as the new chief officer of MMC.
However, the order states that Tari will also hold additional charge as Director (Admin) Electricity Department.
In the last few years, the MMC has had many chief officers, including Deepali Naik, Agnelo Fernandes, Gaurish Shankwalkar, Arvind Bugde, Santosh Kundaikar, Agnelo Fernandes (Additional Charge) and Sandhya Kamat. Jayant Tari will now be the eighth chief officer at the MMC.
