The Corporation of city of Panaji on Monday demolished an illegal construction of the commercial showroom on the second floor of a building in a conservation zone opposite Captain of Ports. The CCP workers in presence of CCP officials, revenue officials and police carried out the task of demolishing the illegal structure.
The Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of this illegal structure as it is done in conservation zone violating municipal regulations.
It may be recalled that the CCP has issued an order of demolition of the floor way back in 2009. The owner Tahir Isani filed an appeal before the minister for urban development and in 2010 the appellate authority set aside the demolition. CCP then approached High Court which upheld the order of the Corporation. The owner then challenged the HC order in Supreme Court. However, SC declined to interfere with the judgment.
