Dabolim village in Mormugao taluka has been selected as South Goa’s Model Solar Power Energy Village under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and will receive Central assistance of Rs 1 crore for community-based solar energy projects.
The achievement has brought laurels to the village and is being seen as a major boost for renewable energy adoption in the constituency.
The selection was made following an assessment conducted by the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) between November 2025 and February 2026. Seven villages from South Goa participated in the evaluation process, which considered awareness about the scheme, enrolment of beneficiaries and overall performance under the initiative.
Dabolim emerged on top among the participating villages, recording the highest performance indicators, including around 30 kVA of solar power capacity achieved under the scheme. The village outperformed other contenders to secure the distinction of being named South Goa’s Model Solar Power Energy Village.
The success has been attributed to the efforts of the village panchayat under the leadership of Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, who encouraged residents to embrace solar energy and take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Panchayat members and local residents worked together to spread awareness about the benefits of renewable energy and increase participation in the scheme.
Under the initiative, Dabolim will receive Rs 1 crore in Central assistance for the development of solar infrastructure projects benefiting both the panchayat and the local community.
The funds are expected to be utilised for community-oriented solar projects, including facilities for panchayat buildings, community halls and other public infrastructure.
GEDA will serve as the implementing agency for the project in coordination with the village panchayat. The initiative is expected to strengthen the use of renewable energy at the grassroots level and position Dabolim as a model village for sustainable development in Goa.
