Five booked for ATM cash misappropriation in Vasco

Action taken after audit finds nearly ₹14 lakh missing

A routine audit of cash loading at an ICICI Bank ATM in Vasco has uncovered a major case of misappropriation, prompting Vasco police to register an offence against five employees of Hitachi Cash Management Service Pvt Ltd, Goa Branch, Porvorim.
The case was initiated following a complaint by Branch Manager Parmeshwar Umrajkar. As per the complaint, the incident occurred between August 13, 2025 and September 6, 2025, when ATM operators — Gopinath Harmalkar, Sameer Kadam, Arjun Dhainje, Ketan Kharat — along with Sanket Shrishna Ghogale, who were entrusted with the job of loading cash bundles in bank ATMs, allegedly acted with common intention and dishonestly misappropriated the funds while loading cash into the ICICI Bank ATM at Vasco. The complainant stated that the accused, who were custodians of the cash bundles, misappropriated Rs 13,97,500 during the loading process.
Vasco police have registered an offence under Sections 316, 318(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Plato Carvalho of Vasco Police Station, under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
