CANACONA
A Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) team led by Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares has begun visiting houses and establishments to spread awareness, after the number of active Covid cases has shot up to 36 in the taluka, according to the official health bulletin.

Two of the 36 Covid patients have been admitted at the South District Hospital in Margao while the other patients are kept in home isolation. The Canacona CHC has so far recorded 888 Covid cases in the taluka.

The sharp rise in Covid cases in Canacona can be gauged from the fact that there was only one Covid active case on February 25 and the cases shot up to 7 (February 26), 27 (March 3) and 32 (March 5) in barely eight days.

According to sources, 33 active Covid cases in Canacona are spread in Chaudi (7) and Tarir (4) areas of Canacona municipality, which incidentally goes to polls on March 20, Agonda (12), Karvem-Gaondongrim (4) and Loliem (6).

Concerned about a growing rise in Covid cases, Dr Tavares and his staff conducted a survey of affected areas in Agonda and Tarir (Canacona municipality).

“On Thursday, we went from house to house, guiding people to practice precautionary measures and also advised people to come and test themselves for Covid-19. But today (Friday), hardly 11 persons came for a Covid test,” Dr Tavares told The Goan.

“On Saturday, we will visit the affected areas in Chaudi, where 7 cases have already come to light.”

“It is very essential for those who may have come in contact with Covid patients to volunteer for tests. People should get themselves tested. We sincerely appeal to the contacts, neighbours and family members of Covid-19 positive patients to come forward and get themselves tested,” Dr Tavares added.
