Two more accused including the second employee of the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology involved in the alleged land grabbing scam was granted conditional bail by a Mapusa court on Wednesday.

The two accused – Dhiresh Naik, the employee at the Directorate of Archives and Archaeology and the other accused, Mohammad Suhail Shafi of Santa Cruz – have been granted conditional bail.

So far, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had arrested four accused in connection with the land grabbing cases and all four are now out on bail.

Dhiresh Naik has been asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 40,000 and two sureties of Rs 20,000 each. He has been asked to report to the police station for 15 days. He has also been directed not to tamper with the evidence.

Similarly, Mohammed Suhail Shafi has been asked to execute a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. He has been asked to report to the investigation officer for six days.

The SIT probing the multi-crore land grabbing scam had first arrested Vikrant Shetty, followed by Mohammed Suhail Shafi.

Later, the SIT arrested two government employees, Dhiresh Naik and Shivanand Madkaikar, both working as sorters with the Directorate of Archives and Archeology.

Police said both were involved in providing the other two accused documents related to notarial deeds of properties of the period prior to 1961.

Madkaikar was granted conditional bail on Tuesday while Shetty was already granted bail some days ago.

The State government had constituted the SIT to investigate various complaints and FIRs filed with regard to land frauds and land grabbing committed by forging documents.

The ongoing probe has revealed that at least 70 properties worth around Rs 1,000 crore have been sold by using forged documents in North Goa alone.
