Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has provided succour to an ailing firefighter from Mopa-Kasarvanem, offering to pay for all medical expenses for a major heart surgery which expected to cost around Rs 40 lakh.
Umesh Varak, who had joined the fire services as a fire tender driver two years ago, is ailing from a heart condition and is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai.

As soon as Arolkar heard this news, he flew to Mumbai and met the patient and his family. He then discussed the matter with doctors in the hospital and assured that he would bear the entire cost of the heart surgery.
