PANAJI
The tirade launched against a political science professor of the Salgaocar law college launched by a section of the right wing was sought to be escalated with a police complaint being lodged against her before the Cyber Cell of the Goa Police.

The complaint filed by one Rajiv Jha from Ponda accuses Shilpa Singh, who is assistant professor and teaches political science at the Miramar law college, of “insulting” Hindu religious sentiments among other things through social media posts.

Jha has sought registration of an FIR against Singh in his complaint which he has also delivered to the IGP and DGP on Thursday.

Earlier last week, the RSS-affiliate student body ABVP had unsuccessfully tried to get the law college to terminate Singh’s services accusing her of using anti-religious content in her online lectures.

ABVP had served a 24-hour deadline on the college management and threatened an ‘aggressive’ agitation.

The college however refused to oblige and Singh received support and solidarity from political science professors from across Goa who hit out at ABVP for interfering in an area it has no jurisdiction.

The political science professors also accused ABVP of seeking to infringe on ‘academic sanctity’ of classrooms without jurisdiction.

Singh who was also asked to explain her teaching methods and material she used mentioned in the complaint also told her college’s grievance committee in writing that the ABVP had no locus-standi, which otherwise is exclusively that of bonafide students attending her class and through established in-house mechanisms such as the grievance committee.

Professor files ‘intimidation’ plaint against Jha

PANAJI: Shilpa Singh, the law college professor targetted by the right wing ABVP over her teaching methods and content, on Friday filed a complaint before the North Goa Superintendent of Police, accusing Ponda-based Rajiv Jha of criminally intimidating her.

Singh filed her two-page complaint against Jha at the North Goa SP’s office in Porvorim.
