PANAJI

Goa Trinamool Congress on Saturday launched a searing attack on Rohan Khaunte for his alleged involvement in a massive land scam.

Condemning BJP for nominating leaders with a criminal record, Goa TMC leader Sandeep Vazarkar and Goa TMC state committee members Antonio Fernandes and Vijay Chodankar addressed the media at the party office in Panaji, stated a press release.

Lambasting Khaunte’s fraudulence, Sandeep Vazarkar said, “The BJP candidate has been involved in many illegal land transactions which have never been properly proved. However, the police and administration have not paid any heed to our complaints."

"More than 20 innocent residents of Porvorim have been looted by Khaunte and his close aides. The land grabbed by the BJP candidate measures more than 2 lakh sq metres," he added.

Sandeep Vazarkar further alleged that the complainants met the Chief Minister in 2019 and demanded a strict investigation and legal action against the culprits but the Chief Minister failed to provide a timeline or clear assurance.

He added, "Ever since we have joined Goa TMC, people are mustering up the courage to speak up against the corrupt and power-hungry leaders."

Detailing the scam, state committee member Vijay Chodankar said, "In 1983, my father bought 6-7 plots on open land. As per the Town and Country Planning Department (TCP), open lands had to be handed over to the Panchayat. Later, they sold that land with my mother’s forged signatures. Not just that, I’ve also taken this matter to the crime branch."

Elaborating on the injustice faced by Porvorkars, Antonio Fernandes said, "From forging signatures to suppressing the voice of his own people, Khaunte and his aides have stooped to a new low and left the law and order in shambles."
