Goa's health authorities have reported two more Covid-19 deaths in the 24-hours of Wednesday-Thursday taking the pandemic's toll for 2020 to 739.

The Directorate of Health Services mortality bulletin said a 66-year-old from Sanguem and an 84-year-old from Parra were the two male patients who succumbed to the dreaded virus.

Meanwhile, the DHS bulletin also said that there were 85 more people, including two travellers who contracted the virus and tested positive over the same 24-hour period of Wednesday-Thursday.

There are currently 939 active cases of Covid-19 in the State of which some 40 are people who arrived here from the United Kingdom since November-end who could have been infected by the new mutated strain of the virus.

These UK travellers are being treated at the ESI hospital in Margao in isolation. Their samples have also been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune for further genome analysis.

The newly mutated virus is suspected to be more contagious and widely spreading one.
