Expressing his displeasure with officials delaying the process rehabilitating the affected kiosk owners and fruit vendors, St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes said he would also be forced to join the protest if concrete action is not forthcoming on rehabilitation.

“I have been continuously taking up the issue and have got fed up. I don’t know why the authorities are delaying the rehabilitation plan. If I do not get concrete assurance, I will also be forced to protest with them. And if anything happens to me, authorities should be held responsible,” a visible upset Fernandes told reporters.

When questioned whether there is political interference within, Fernandes held some officials responsible for the same.

“The unnecessary delay is costing these people dearly. They are right now on the roads with no livelihood. CM has given his word, he is the final authority, then why are authorities delaying the process?” Fernandes questioned.

“When elected representatives are demanding that things need to be done, it has to be done. The health minister says that he has no problem, GMC authorities are saying they have no problem, they why rehabilitation is not happening?”
