I am a frequent visitor to the Dr Francisco Luis Gomes District Library at Navelim, which serves as a learning hub for students and the general public alike. With an excellent collection of books on every subject, an internet section, a newspaper section and a children’s section complete with comics and toys, it appeals to people of all ages, from 8 to 80. But it was disheartening to note that there is no maintenance of the building carried out by the Education Department/PWD. Mildewed walls, rusted railings, slippery walkways, an unkempt garden and a moss-covered, damp environment are what greet the users. It is tragic that a library named after one of Goa’s most famous sons is in such a decrepit condition. I would request the CM to take a personal interest in the matter and set things right.
