The post-mortem report reveals that 49-year-old Vasanti Salelkar from Karapur-Khotiwada died due to electrocution. Her family had already raised doubts about the circumstances of her death. Police said she collapsed after touching a metal door that had become live because of a damaged insulated wire used to power a bulb from one room to another.

Her death took place on a disputed property. Family members and local leaders are demanding a thorough inquiry, suggesting possible foul play linked to the property dispute. A property dispute is a disagreement between two or more parties over the ownership, use or boundaries of land or buildings. Such disputes can arise in residential, commercial or industrial properties. They are usually resolved through court cases, ADR (alternative dispute resolution) methods like mediation and arbitration, or through specialised tribunals.

In Vasanti Salelkar’s case, some important details, after a closer look, have raised further doubts. These circumstances suggest that this may not be a natural death but a pre-planned act. Vasanti had earlier filed several complaints about serious harassment. Because of all these issues, social activists have demanded a judicial enquiry into Vasanti Salelkar’s death.
