Rising accidents: Food for thought

ARWIN MESQUITA, Colva | AUGUST 06, 2022, 12:19 AM IST

There have been numerous accidents in Goa particularly in the recent past with some unfortunately resulting in deaths.

While many of them are drunken driving cases, I cannot understand why is the government not accountable as some senior ministers seem to think so?

In many countries there are strict laws and hefty fines for drunken driving. What is stopping our government from taking similar measures?

Presently, police are cracking down on drunken driving but is this not a "knee jerk" reaction? Why was this not done as an ongoing strict standard in the first place?

Also, bad roads, poor construction and bad maintenance of the same is a major cause for accidents.

It is time the ministers and our government walk the talk and do what you are elected to do properly.
