Churches in State can give big boost to agriculture

ADELMO FERNANDES, Vasco | JULY 03, 2022, 07:29 PM IST

Priests, seminarians and the lay people joined hands at the Rachol Seminary on Sunday to maintain a rich tradition of cultivating the sprawling paddy field, even as Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao reportedly underscored the need to protect and preserve nature as one's second home. The Archbishop reminded that the ancestors had protected nature and the environment as part of the rich tradition. It is pertinent to note youth belonging to the St Francis Xavier Church at Chicalim are doing yeomen service in carrying out paddy cultivation. It must be said that churches in Goa can give a big boost to agriculture in the state. The youth need to be stressed upon about the importance of preserving our rich cultural heritage especially in agriculture. Other churches need to take the lesson from the Chicalim church and boost agriculture in their parish by engaging the youth. Goans need to cultivate the fields in order to be self sufficient in our food requirements.
