Dealing with traffic violators in Ponda

On Monday, March 1, at 5.30 pm, two men-in-khaki were seen issuing fines to traffic violators adjacent to Two Pillars at Queula village in Ponda. The drive was appropriate and needs to be continued for a long time. Most of the two-wheeler riders on this route do not wear helmets and fail to adhere to speed limits. The sad part is they carry a helmet, but do not find it necessary to wear it. Some riders indulge in reckless driving jeopardising the lives of others. Further, minor children, who do not possess licence, are seen riding two-wheelers in this area. In case cops are posted here on a regular basis, people would certainly follow traffic rules.

It is equally important to note that private bus operators often halt buses exactly at the junction thereby turning it dangerous for fellow travellers and pedestrians. Buses can very well be halted at the authorised bus-shelter constructed close to this junction along the Kapileshwari route. In the presence of cops, bus-operators too would exhibit some discipline. I appreciate the move on the part of higher officials at the Goa police in introducing this drive at the above location and request them to continue it. Such a step would indeed go a long way in reducing mishaps in this area.
