It’s hell on the highway!

The road works along the Zuari stretch has been on at a frantic pace due to the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There have been road diversions made that are inconveniencing motorists travelling late in the evening. In the absence of no personnel directing flow of traffic, there are cases where vehicles land in the wrong lane throwing a scare of accidents. What further compounds the problem is that there are no street lights on major sections making it extremely difficult to navigate.

While a major section of the road is now cemented, the worry is over the uneven nature of the surface and the cracks showing up at several places along the Bambolim-Panaji section. A nearly 1.5 km section of the newly cemented road along the Agassaim bypass has been thrown open to traffic within days of laying the concrete. What was believed to be a smooth ride has turned out to be very bumpy on the new roads. It appears that there are no quality checks in place leading to sub-standard work.
