Mhadei water and K’taka’s contentions

R FERNANDES, Margao | MARCH 03, 2021, 12:15 AM IST

Responding to the SC order, Karnataka has named its joint team member for the inspection of the Kalasa-Bhandura project. Goa and Maharashtra should also name their members.

Karnataka says it is using the excess water of Mhadei. On February 26, it objected to Tamil Nadu taking up an interlinking project for using surplus water from the inter-state Cauvery water. It contends that surplus water has not been shared between the States officially or legally and that they would fight the same. This came when Tamil Nadu laid the foundation for Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar link to utilise surplus Cauvery water.

Now we see Karnataka having two diametrically opposing views depending on which angle it views the same. Clearly, it only wants everything as a matter of its forced birthright. The arguments put forward can help Goa’s case for sure.
