Will Kerala be epicentre of third Covid wave?

KG VILOP, Chorao | AUGUST 01, 2021, 11:48 PM IST

Rising cases of Coronavirus infections in Kerala are worrying. Once hailed for its impeccable Covid tackling model, the State is still witnessing a surge in cases.  It seems that the Kerala government has been using the pandemic for political gain. The relaxation that had been given is not on the basis of cases increasing or decreasing, it's on political and vote bank considerations.  The rise in infections in Kerala is posing a big challenge to the state’s overstretched health system.  Will Kerala be the epicentre of India's third Covid wave?  The state has a high density of population, a large number of elderly population and high volume of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, which have made its battle with Coronavirus harder. LDF government had relaxed restrictions completely during festivals to appease the vote bank.  If the third wave starts now, then the entire blame is on Kerala government.  Supreme Court too must take onus.
