Vijai sees red over Tika Utsav held in his fiefdom

THE GOAN NETWORK | MAY 02, 2021, 12:21 AM IST

It was a week when Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai saw red in the Tika Utsav organised by rival Damubab Naik in his fiefdom Fatorda. Damubab, sources said, postponed the planned vaccination exercise, beginning from May 1, but the postponement came after the Fatorda MLA raised a hue and cry before the district authorities. MLAs attending a meeting called by Margao SDM Jyotibai Kumari informed that Vijaibab virtually held out a threat that he will not remain a silent spectator if MLAs are bypassed and BJP workers are allowed to hold vaccination festivals. Any questions?

Reginaldo questions silence of party leaders

Congress MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco may have no explanation how the Lotus has bloomed in the two Margao Municipal wards coming under Curtorim constituency. He, however, has a question or two for Congress leaders who had supported the party-backed panel that had fielded as many as six candidates in the Fatorda area of the civic body. The Curtorim MLA, who had come under strong criticism from certain party leaders for joining hands with Opposition Leader Diggu and Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai for the MMC polls, now questions the silence of these leaders on the civic poll debacle.

GPCC leadership issue put on hold?

With the Covid crisis going from bad to worse across the country, and with senior Congress leaders preoccupied with the Covid work, the leadership issue plaguing the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) may be put on the backburner for the moment. Hopes were raised in Congress circles that the High Command would discuss the GPCC leadership issue after elections to the four states of WB, TN, Assam and Kerala. Local Congress leaders say the ongoing Covid pandemic may only force the leadership to postpone the leadership issue. Indeed, fresh lease of life for the GPCC leadership.

GFP chief goes into introspection mode

Is Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai happy over the Margao Municipal election results. Well, winning nine out of 13 seats may not be a small achievement when the ruling party had made a determined bid to checkmate the Fatorda MLA in his den. Sources, however, say Vijaibab is presently on an introspection mode, trying to figure out how the BJP could bag three seats in his fiefdom and came close to winning in at least other seats. Indeed, a time for introspection for the Goa Forward chief ahead of the 2022 battle.

Salpem Lake issue: Now, Luizinho blames Pratima

Congress veteran Luizinhbab Faleiro seemed to have handled Congress-turned-AAP leader Pratimabai Coutinho in his inimitable fashion. After Pratimabai raised a hue and cry over the contamination of the once picturesque Salpem lake, pointing accusing fingers at the Navelim MLA for ignoring the lake, Luizinhbab says the AAP leader too should share the blame for the polluted lake. He says that sewage waters from Margao, more so from Ward No. 20, which was being represented by the Coutinhos for many years, had found its way into Navelim, contaminating the Salpem lake. Any takers?
