Now in BJP, Kamat no longer ‘undisputed leader’ in Margao

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | SEPTEMBER 25, 2022, 12:58 AM IST

Diggu may suddenly realise that he may no longer be the whole and sole in Margao anymore after returning to the BJP. Unlike Congress, where he was the undisputed leader in Margao, Diggu will have to contend with the aspirations of the BJP cadre. Having crossed swords with the saffron brigade, no one knows better than Diggu that he cannot afford to ignore the cadre, more so in a party where the organisation plays a dominant role. Is that the reason behind the BJP top brass facilitating the interaction between the Congress-turned-BJP MLA and the cadre? Wait and watch.

With change in political guard, all eyes on Digambar, Vijai

History has repeated itself in the Margao civic body against the backdrop of the unfolding political developments in the State. The Margao Civic Alliance (MCA) forged by Diggu and Vijaibab Sardesai to fight the BJP in 2015 had virtually collapsed after the Fatorda MLA had aligned with the saffron brigade in 2017. The duo again came together in 2021 to fight the civic polls in what was seen in many quarters as a marriage of convenience. With Diggu embracing the BJP, observers wonder how the two MLAs will go about politics in their respective fiefdoms.

Churchill to field son Savio for GFA election

The ensuing election for the Goa Football Association seemed to have come as an opportunity for Varca strongman Bab Churchill to prove a point or two for his detractors. Having been forced to quit GFA as per the High Court verdict, Churchillbab seemed to have decided to field son Savio for the GFA election. Churchillbab’s passion for football is never in dispute, having been closely associated with the sport over the decades. Wait and watch how he goes about electing his son to the coveted post and proving a point or two to his detractors.

Who are Cong looters responsible for party’s debacle in 2022 polls?

Guess who the liars and looters in the Congress accused by South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha as the culprits behind the party’s debacle in the 2022 polls? Well, defection by the eight MLAs has given an armament for the MP to fire fresh salvos at the leaders, who manipulated their way to preside over the distribution of tickets. It’s an open secret that Sardinhbab was ignored and cold-shouldered on party issues, including ticket distribution. Ask Sardinhbab to name the looters and liars, and he replies by saying Goemkars know of the leaders responsible for the party’s decimation.

Davorlim ZP polls: Task at hand for GPCC president

GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar may face a challenge of sorts in his leadership with the Zilla Panchayat by-polls around. Take the Davorlim ZP seat, where the Lotus had bloomed in the 2020 polls. Much water, however, has flowed down the river Sal since then, with party leader Luizinhbab Faleiro quitting the party and the former MLA Avertanbab Furtado maintaining low key post-2022 election. Amitbab Patkar may face a million-dollar question – how to go about shortlisting the candidate for the Davorlim seat.
