Chintan Shivir: Kamat’s absence raises eyebrows

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 15, 2022, 12:26 AM IST

Diggu’s absence at the Congress Working Committee meeting and the party’s Chintan Shivir has once again left tongues wagging within the Congress circles and outside. Reports of Diggu skipping the Chintan Shivir were the talking point in political circles during the weekend. Even Opposition leader Michaelbab Lobo and GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar, who are attending the Shivir, were taken aback over Diggu’s absence. Diggu, however, sought to dispel all speculations, saying he couldn’t make it to Udaipur, as he was busy with a wedding of a close relative. Any questions?

Vijai takes jibe at govt, but lacks fire power

Perhaps for the first time since election, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai sounded critical of the BJP-led government when he saw red that Konkani language was not made essential over the appointment of Sagar Mitras. Observers in Saxttidom, however, pointed out that the usual fire power was clearly missing in Vijaibab’s statement. The Goa Forward chief has been under the scanner of friends and foes over reports that he may join hands with the saffron brigade. Wait and watch as Vijaibab hasn’t yet unveiled the road map, how he would go about playing his third successive innings.

Political-connect between Navelim & N-E

Political observers may wonder whether there’s any political-connect between Navelim and the North Eastern states. For, the Congress had over a decade ago handpicked veteran Luizinhbab Faleiro as the in-charge of the North East. Sources now say the Aam Aadmi Party is believed to have offered party woman leader Pratimabai Coutinho to take charge of the North East as AAP is working overtime to make its pan-India presence ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. It’s another matter that Pratimabai is reportedly weighing on other options, including the option to return back to the Congress.

All eyes on Margao Ravindra Bhavan chair

Who will head the Margao Ravindra Bhavan is a question doing the rounds in Saxtti’s political circles? And, the reason is not far to seek. For, while the BJP-led government has appointed its nominees on various corporations, Ravindra Bhavan is presently without a chairman. BJP Fatorda leader Damubab Naik had presided over the affairs of Ravindra Bhavan, before he quit the post in the run up to the 2022 polls. Will the BJP party bosses reserve the post for Damubab again or will it go to someone else? Wait and watch.

Churchill mum on CM’s conversion stance

Has Varca strongman Bab Churchill anything to say on “Bahujan Samaj” Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s plans to rebuild temples and claims on religious conversions? Well, the ex-Benaulim MLA has been quick to take on former RSS chief Subhashbab Velingkar’s controversial remarks on St Francis Xavier. It is a sheer coincidence that nothing much was heard from the former MLA on the CM’s comments on temples and conversions. Interesting, isn’t it?
