Congress leaders question ‘loyalty’ while giving tickets

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JANUARY 14, 2022, 12:48 AM IST

Worried over the fall out of giving tickets to new entrants for the ensuing polls, a section of senior Congress leaders have insisted the party leadership make a mention the ticket aspirant’s association with the organisation. Senior party leaders seemed totally unhappy over the way candidates have been finalised by the leadership by overlooking the loyalty aspect. Suspecting that a group of leaders have ganged up to distribute tickets for candidates of their choice, senior leaders have now asked the party to note down the candidate’s association with the organisation.

Will Saxtti witness Cong woman nomination?

Will the Congress nominate a women candidate in female-dominated Saxttidom in the ensuing polls? Names of a host of women candidates have been recommended for tickets in the women dominated constituencies of Benaulim, Velim, Curtorim and Nuvem. One question, however, that remains unanswered is whether claims made by the women for party nomination would find favour with the party leadership comprising of P Chidambaram, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Digambar Kamat and Girish Chodankar.

Lobo’s stance on linear projects puzzles workers

BJP-turned-Congress leader Michael Lobo’s promise to scrap the controversial projects in down South has thrown up a question or two in Congress circles. One, Congress workers wondered how come a leader from Calangute could hand out a promise to resolve issues in Saxttidom, and whether the promise was intended to assuage the minorities in down South. Will Michael’s appeal cut ice with the people in the minority area, where anti-BJP parties are jostling to occupy space in the taluka?

Senior cop Sammy Tavares not to contest polls

After months of speculations, senior Goa Police officer Sammy Tavares has finally decided not to contest in the ensuing Assembly polls from home constituency Cuncolim. Contrary to speculations, the Superintendent of Police heading Konkan Railway police station will not cut short his career in Goa Police, but has decided to retire from service in October next year. As news trickled that Sammy will not be in the election fray, a couple of probable candidates have reportedly called on the police officer, seeking his blessings for their success.
