Kamat swears no politics discussed at b’day bash

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | AUGUST 06, 2022, 12:54 AM IST

Senior Congress MLA Diggu swears there was no politics discussed at the first birthday bash of grandchild at the Grand Hyatt, Bambolim on Sunday. He even went to the extent of saying whether one can discuss politics at a public reception when guests from all walks of life were around. Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and a couple of Cabinet Ministers present at the reception, however, was indeed a talking point at the party. What further raised many an eyebrow was that a couple of Congress MLAs, perceived as not being averse to attending the party, were spotted at the party. Any questions?

Did Michael offer Oppn leader’s post to Vijai?

At Diggu’s grandchild’s birthday bash, MLA Michaelbab Lobo is believed to have told a Margao-based lawyer that he had requested Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai to merge the regional party lock, stock and barrel post-election result and take over the post of Leader of Opposition. Vijaibab, sources said, still seemed not convinced. He has been left to wonder whether Michaelbab’s offer was intended for his benefit or was it a move to pave way for the Congress rebel MLAs to quit the party, after blaming the High Command for imposing him on the party MLAs. Interesting, isn’t it?

Duo working in tandem to keep BJP at bay

After having scuttled rebel Congress MLAs plan to form a two-third group and join the BJP at least for the moment, young first-time Congress MLAs Yuri and Altone seemed to be working in tandem to stop the saffron flag from flying high in Balli village panchayat in the ensuing polls. Balli panchayat wards fall in both Cuncolim and Quepem constituencies. During the last term, Congress-turned-BJP MLAs Clafacio and Babu Kavlekar had worked overtime for the party’s success in the ZP polls. Wait and watch whether the Yuri-Altone duo can ensure the Congress victory in Balli.

Venzy wary of Vijai’s political course

Political observers in Saxttidom are trying to figure out why Aam Aadmi Party MLA Capt Venzybab Viegas is of the opinion that Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai does not deserve pardon for propping up the BJP government headed by late Manoharbhai Parrikar in 2017. At a time when Vijaibab has not stopped apologising for bringing the BJP to power in 2017, the Capt seems unconvinced. Political observers wonder whether Venzybab and AAP has realised that Vijaibab has something up his sleeves by offering apologies at a time when the Congress is down and the AAP is eyeing for the opposition space. Wait and watch.

MMC councillor’s induction into BJP raises eyebrows

Is there any political message from the BJP State leadership after inducting Margao Municipal councillor Mahesh Amonkar into the party fold? A known Diggu baiter, the BJP has opened the party doors for Mahesh when speculations were rife over the Margao MLA’s imminent entry into the saffron brigade. Is the move aimed at strengthening the party in the Margao Municipality controlled by the Vijai-Diggu duo? Or, is it simply a message from a section of BJP State leaders as well as the party Margao rank and file that they have neither forgotten nor forgiven Diggu for dislodging the Parrikar regime in 2005? Any questions?
