Congress leader P Chidambaram’s appointment as Election observer for Goa has indeed become a subject matter of debate in Congress circles and outside. Political observers are trying to figure out the exact role Chidambaram will play in Goa in the run up to the 2022 Polls. Sources say the Harvard educated Congress leader is being drafted to Goa at a time when the High Command is bracing up to take decisions on a host of issues, including the GPCC leadership tangle, electoral alliances et al. Chidambaram’s appointment is being viewed positively by those rooting for a change in GPCC leadership and alliances with like-minded parties.
Rao’s coming, but is he bringing Goa solution?
Reports coming from the Congress camp indicate that AICC leader Dinesh Gundu Rao may stay put as Goa desk in-charge and is likely to visit the state later this month. Sources do not rule out the possibility of Dinesh Gundu Rao calling on Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders in the national capital before returning to the state. The GPCC leadership tangle remains unresolved and so are a host of issues. Gundu Rao had to grapple with these issues in the past. Workers are looking forward for solution to the issues plaguing the party. Wait and watch whether Gundu will bring good news to the rank and file during his next visit.
Elvis’ route to ticket via Congress blocks?
What’s bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvisbab Gomes up to is a question doing the rounds in Congress circles, a week after he embraced the main opposition party. That he has set his eyes on the Cuncolim Congress ticket is an open secret. Elvisbab’s plans to visit all Congress blocks across the state, however, has baffled many in the organisation. Will this initiative leave him enough time to strengthen his base in Cuncolim for the 2022 battle? Or is his exercise a game plan to earn goodwill and win the High Command’s confidence before staking claim for the Cuncolim ticket? Only time will tell.
And all thought Yuri would abstain from Elvis event
Congress leader Yuribab Alemao’s presence in the Congress House on Sunday when arch rival Elvisbab Gomes embraced the party has become a talking point in Congress circles. When many had expected the Alemaos to oppose Elvisbab’s entry into the Congress, Yuri was right there in the Congress house to shake hands with the bureaucrat-turned-politician. Yuri’s presence, sources said was kept a closely guarded secret, taking the rival camp by surprise. In fact, even Elvisibab had no idea till the last minute that Yuri will share the dais with him in the Congress house. Any questions?
Hosting Cong leaders, Elton could be rewarded soon
Grace Majestic owner, Eltonbab D’Costa is one Congress leader who does not mind playing a perfect host to party central leaders in his hotel. Cong Goa desk in-charge Gundu Rao and other functionaries check in his hotel whenever they are in the state on official visits. At least on 2-3 occasions, Eltonbab played host to the central and local leaders in his hotel adjoining the district Collectorate. Is any reward waiting for this hotelier-turned-politician, who has set his set his eyes on Quepem to take on Dy CM Babu Kavlekar in 2022. Only time will tell.
