When Goa Cong recalled 2017 episode during K’taka impasse

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 20, 2023, 12:48 AM IST

After days of suspense and drama, Goa Congress leaders too seemed to have heaved a sigh of relief after the party High Command worked out a power sharing formula in Karnataka, but not before recalling a similar situation in Goa when the saffron brigade snatched power from the party in 2017. A senior leader pointed out that Karnataka would have gone the Goa way had not the BJP suffered badly in the election. The Congress could not form the government in Goa in 2017 despite emerging as the single largest party and the BJP stranded way behind with 13 seats before the Goa Forward propped up the BJP-led government after the Congress delayed in sorting out the leadership issue. Any questions?

With oppn brewing, will Vishwajit introspect on pvt medical college?

Has Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane anything to say on the opposition brewing against the private medical college proposed at the South Goa district hospital? Well, many say Vishwajitbab may go into an introspection mode, more so since the opposition has come from none other than Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, with whom he reportedly enjoyed excellent relations. That’s not all. Vijaibab seemed to have thrown a googly at the government on the issue, by demanding to know why PM Modi’s pet AIIMs project has not found favour with the Goa government, but instead batting for the private medical college. Wait and watch.

Churchill celebrates b’day with family in Bahrain

Many must have expected Varca strongman Bab Churchill to celebrate his birthday earlier this week, more so after he sang BJP praises, even not ruling out the possibility of embracing the saffron brigade. To the surprise of many, including his ardent supporters, Churchillbab headed to the Gulf country of Bahrain with family members to celebrate his birthday with daughter. There was no birthday bash at Varca, but Churchillbab is believed to have received a host of calls from politicos as well as friends to extend birthday wishes.

This Cong aspirant for South Goa seat goes in campaign mode

A Congress ticket aspirant for the South Goa seat seemed to have come under the scanner of the Congress leadership. For, this aspirant has been moving around the constituency, calling on members of his Samaj, to drum up support for his candidature as if the Party High Command has confirmed his ticket for the seat. Congressmen in private say this may cost the party dearly and adversely affect the party’s prospects in the coming Lok Sabha polls if the ticket aspirant’s claim for the ticket does not find favour with the party High Command. Wait and watch.

Calls between Vijai and CM take scribes by surprise

For a moment, scribes covering the media briefing by Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai were taken aback when the Fatorda MLA called up Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant midway through the conference. What further surprised scribes was that the CM accepted Vijaibab’s phone as if the duo was on a hotline, but promised to call back since the former was preoccupied with some work. Minutes later, the CM called back the Fatorda MLA to discuss Sonsodo, leaving scribes to wonder what’s happening around when a bitter critic called up the CM and the latter even replied back the call as if they share a perfect rapport. Any questions?
