All eyes on CLP leadership issue

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | SEPTEMBER 03, 2022, 12:44 AM IST

With senior Congress leader Mukul Wasnik expected to descend in Goa during the weekend to resolve the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leadership issue, Congress leaders have been trying to figure out whether any of the State party leaders share a rapport with the High Command emissary. Realisation suddenly dawned on many Congress leaders that party heavyweight Aleixobab Sequeira is one leader who shares close ties with Wasnik since their youth Congress days. Aleixobab, however, is believed to have told close aides he has not been kept in the loop over Wasnik’s visit by the State leadership. Wait and watch.

When Minister cautioned MLA on defection

Hazard a guess what was the plain advice from a senior Cabinet Minister in the Pramodbab Sawant-led BJP government to a first-time Congress MLA on defection. If sources are to be believed, the Minister has advised the first-time MLA that he will remain a first and last MLA in the event he quits the Congress to embrace the ruling BJP. For a moment, the first-time MLA wondered whether the Minister was thinking good about him or was wary that the entry of Congress MLAs would demote them in the ruling party. Any questions?

With office shut, Damu keeps workers guessing

Two-time former BJP MLA Damubab Naik seems to have left his workers and supporters in guessing mode. He has shut down the shutters of his office post-2022 polls. And, contrary to reports he may return back on the Margao Ravindra Bhavan saddle, Damubab is yet to take over the reins of office. Interestingly, Damubab is actively involved in the party. And, with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls less than two years away, questions are being raised in party circles whether the former MLA figures in the list of probable candidates for the ensuing polls. Wait and watch.

LS polls: Sardinha keen in seeking re-election

South Goa MP Franciscobab Sardinha seems to be bracing up to seek re-election from South Goa in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. It’s another thing whether the Congress would nominate him as the party candidate in the ensuing LS polls. One thing, however, is clear that the three-time South Goa MP is very much keen to throw his hat in the electoral ring once again. Wait and watch as the South Goa MP is all set to undertake a tour of the South Goa panchayats to understand the local issues and sanction projects under the MPLAD scheme.

Mission Saxtti: What’s BJP’s game plan?

What’s BJP’s game plan in minority Saxttidom in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls? Well, the saffron brigade has time and again ruled out Mission Saxtti to woo the minority voters towards the party. The presence of CM Pramodbab Sawant, State BJP chief Sadanandbab Tanavade and BJP lone Saxtti MLA Ulhasbab Tuenkar at the Betalbatim football finals at the invitation of flamboyant Mickkybab Pacheco is an indication the party has other plans in place. Banking on local satraps to make a dent in the Congress base seems to be an attractive proposal over Mission Saxtti. Any questions?
