All eyes on ‘retired hurt’ Digambar

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JULY 31, 2022, 01:02 AM IST

In the eye of a political storm, Diggu took pains to explain to the media the exact meaning of “retired hurt” in the game of cricket? Scribes, however, have a question or two for the Margao MLA – for how long can a player remain retired hurt in the dressing room. Diggu insists he is only retired hurt, reminding that a retired hurt player returns back to play when fully fit, throwing up a moot question – will Diggu return back to bat for Team Congress or will quit the team on grounds of the injury. Wait and watch.

Cong plans I-Day for rejuvenation

The Congress leadership seems bracing up to make its presence felt across the State on India’s Independence Day. If sources are to be believed, the party is planning to take out rallies in every constituency on the occasion of Independence Day. Sources informed that the plan is not just to mark the Independence Day, in a grand manner, but rejuvenate the rank and file at the grassroots against the backdrop of recent reports of rebel MLAs planning to quit the party.

Will govt fulfil seafarers’ demand before LS polls?

What stops Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant unveil a permanent pension scheme for retired seafarers and widows? Well, the scheme launched by former CM late Manoharbhai Parrikar had lapsed in 2019 on grounds it was in force only for a specified period. Many an eyebrow was then raised whether the scheme was not revived after the BJP failed to retain the South Goa Lok Sabha seat in 2019. Will the BJP government work out a permanent scheme ahead of the 2024 polls, or will the beleaguered seafarers and widows have to be content with a scheme, renewed after every 11 months. Wait and watch.

All eyes on Churchill in p’yat polls

Varca strongman Bab Churchill seems to have left politicos in Benaulim constituency in a confused mode. He has been categorical in saying he has stayed away from the ensuing polls for the panchayat bodies. It is, however, an open secret that many candidates, who had supported him in the Assembly polls are all in the election fray. Interestingly, Churchillbab’s daughter Sharonbai is in the fray in one of the wards in home village Varca. Wait and see whether he would get down on the poll battlefield to drum up support for daughter.

Reginaldo counters opponents in defence

Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco has a readymade answer whenever opponents target him for taking support of the saffron brigade to retain Curtorim and for extending support to the BJP. In his inimitable style, the former Congress MLA has come with a counter -- where were the opponents when the Congress had shut doors on him after he had expressed his willingness to return back to the party fold after he quit the TMC. It’s a sheer coincidence, he says, that the same Congress leaders who opposed his re-entry are making a beeline to join the BJP. Any questions?
