CLP leader: Will the issue settle via voting?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 27, 2022, 12:34 AM IST

The Congress High Command may have to grapple with the contentious issue of appointing a new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader. With heavyweight Aleixobab Sequeira saying he is not in contention for the coveted post, it isn’t clear yet whether the High Command will settle the tussle via voting as was done in the past. The numbers reveal that five Congress MLAs hail from down South, while the rest are from the North. A couple of these MLAs owe their tickets to Diggu and the Girish camp. Wait and watch how the leadership will resolve the CLP imbroglio.

Vijai in no hurry on his political future

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai seemed not in any hurry to decide on his political future when speculations are rife he may join the BJP-led government as a Minister. But, with Pramod Sawant taking the oath of office on Monday, the Goa Forward chief does not figure in the scheme of things. Once beaten, twice shy, so goes the saying. And, if sources are to be believed, Vijaibab does not want to act in haste a la 2017. At the same time, he does not rule out anything, only reassuring to consult his ground workers before taking a call. Wait and watch.

Sardinha offers to revive Cong party

South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha is one senior Congress leader who has offered his services to revive the party after the electoral debacle. When Sardinhbab had called for a leadership change a year ago and had offered to take over the reigns of office, he was snubbed by a section of party leaders. Sources say the former Curtorim MLA has told his close aides that he would not shy away from shouldering any responsibility given to him by the party leadership in a bid to revive the party. Any questions?

Churchill recalls brickbats for supporting govt

Has Churchillbab Alemao anything to say over the decision of Independents and other MLAs, extending their support to the Pramod Sawant-led government, assuming office on Monday. Well, pose the question to Churchillbab and the outgoing Benaulim MLA says the very people who had painted him saffron when he had extended support to the Sawant government during the last term, are maintaining silence on the emerging developments. Churchillbab recalled how he had faced brickbats for extending support to the “Bahujan Samaj” Chief Minister. Any takers?

Eyes on Reginaldo & his induction in Cabinet

Will Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco turn out to be Saxtti’s lone MLA to find a berth in the BJP-led government? The four-time Curtorim MLA has already submitted his letter of support to Pramod Sawant. In return, the saffron brigade is expected to induct him in the Cabinet. In 2012, late Manohar Parrikar had inducted in his cabinet then Independent MLA Avertanbab Furtado, to give representation to Saxttidom. In the last term, Congress-turned-BJP MLA Filipe Nery represented Saxttidom in the BJP government as a reward for defecting to the saffron camp. Any questions?
