Cong-GF alliance fails, votes split in Fatorda

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 13, 2022, 12:20 AM IST

Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai may suddenly realise that alliance with the Congress has not helped to avoid split in the non-BJP votes. For, while the Goa Forward had entered into a tie-up with the Congress to ensure the secular votes do not split, the ground reality speaks otherwise. The Congress was not in the fray in Fatorda this time round, but a couple of non-BJP parties, including the Revolutionary Goans Party, Aam Aadmi Party and Trinamool Congress together pocketed around 3,000 votes, indicating the alliance did not help keep the vote intact. Any questions?

Wilfred loses out on support, finishes third

Support of sarpanchas and panchas may not necessarily ensure a victory for any candidate in the elections. None other than Congress-turned-BJP-turned-Independent Wilfred D’Sa aka Babashan has realised this when the EVMs were opened on March 10. Babashan enjoyed the support of majority of the sarpanchas as well as panch members of Nuvem constituency, so much so, many believed it will help the Independent candidate retain the seat. Results, however, showed that Babashan finished third in the race behind the Revolutionary Goans Party.

This time, Reginaldo in govt, Michael in Oppn

At Reginaldbab Lourenco’s 50th birthday celebration, then BJP leader and Minister Michaelbab Lobo had announced at Curtorim that the day is not far away when the Curtorim MLA would be part of the ruling government. Two years down the line, Reginaldbab is bracing up to join the BJP-led government after his supporters gave him the green signal to support the ruling dispensation. It’s a coincidence that Michaelbab will be sitting in the Opposition while Reginaldbab is bracing up to join the BJP Cabinet. Any questions?

Complete rout? Filipe Nery finishes fifth

Amongst the defectors, who faced a total rout in the election is former Minister in the BJP Cabinet, Filipe Nery Rodrigues. While poll pundits had placed their bets on Filipe, voters decided otherwise. A glance at the results show that Filipe Nery has finished fifth in the ladder behind Revolutionary Goans Party, leaving even his workers surprised and shocked. What could be the probable reason behind Filipe Nery’s poor showing? Even Clafaciobab and Babashan may wonder over the former Minister’s comprehensive rout? Any takers?

When Sardinha called for leadership change

What has senior Congress leader and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha to say on the Congress debacle in the Assembly polls? Well, the MP was one of the senior leaders, who had insisted on a change in GPCC leadership months before the election. He was one leader who had repeatedly pointed out that the party under Girish Chodankar’s leadership had failed to even win a single election. Instead of lending an ear, Sardinhbab’s close aides say he was snubbed by the observers and the party leaders, forcing him to go on a silent mode. Any takers?
