Defection on condition of education portfolio

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 25, 2022, 12:17 AM IST

Who is this Congress MLA, who has expressed his willingness to defect to the BJP on condition he is made the Education Minister in the BJP-led government? Well, the MLA is believed to have told close aides that he was approached by another Congress MLA, to find out whether he would be interested in joining the BJP. The MLA, sources said, was quick to accept the offer, provided the BJP makes him the Education Minister. Will this proposal find favour with the saffron brigade, more so when the party normally does not compromise on the education portfolio. Wait and watch.

Political hand in scuttling citizens’ initiative?

Political observers have been trying to figure out whether there was any political hand behind Margao Municipal Chief Officer Rohitbab Kadam’s move to call off the citizens initiative earlier this week. Take note, the Margao Municipality comes under the Urban Development Ministry headed by Vishwajitbab Rane. Observers wonder whether Vishwajitbab and his friends in Margao and Fatorda played a behind the scene role to scuttle the CO’s initiative. Observers are also trying to figure out whether the CO, who headed to Panaji after cancelling the meeting, was huddled with his superiors or with the political leadership.

All eyes on Sunday Dialogue

After a break, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai is back again with his Sunday Dialogue – an exercise aimed at interacting with citizens and officials on his home turf, Fatorda. Sources say the Fatorda MLA plans to revive the Sunday Dialogue at the Goemkar Ghor, Goa Forward’s headquarters on the Davondem bandh. What’s significant about the dialogue is that it has come at a time when the Margao Municipal Chief Officer had proposed to hold citizens’ initiative. Wait and watch whether the MLA would invite the government officials for the Sunday Dialogue and whether the officials would accept the invite.

Vijai, Sardinha locked in war of words

Hazard a guess what made South Goa MP Franciscobab Sardinha and Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai to cross swords against each other earlier this week. This isn’t the first time the duo was locked in a war of words, in a bid to outwit each other. It all started after the Goa Forward chief directed his tirade at the MP, with sources saying Vijaibab seemed to have not forgotten how the MP had worked overtime to scuttle the Congress-Goa Forward alliance. Known for calling spade a spade, Sardinhbab hit back at Vijaibab. The war seems far from over.

Is any good news in store for the seafaring community from the Goa government on the occasion of Seafarers Day on Saturday? Well, the office of NRI Commissioner Narendrabai Sawaikar has credited the pension into the accounts of the retired seafarers and widows this week. NRI Director Anthonybab D’Souza too is on the job to enroll new members for the scheme. The seafaring community has been waiting patiently for the government to declare the pension scheme permanent. Will CM Pramodbab Sawant or the NRI Commissioner bring in good news for the seafaring community on Seafarers Day. Wait and watch.
