Congressmen, opposed to any alliance with the Goa Forward, are reported to have brought the MMC chairperson’s election to the notice of Goa desk in-charge, Gundu Rao. A section of Congress leaders has begun to question the party leadership – will Goa Forward allow the Congress to have a smooth sailing in 2022 without extracting its pound of flesh when Vijaibab Sardesai did not concede the chairperson post to the Congress in the civic body? Why is GPCC Chief Girishbab Chodankar quiet over the Margao Municipal chairperson’s election episode? Vijai FIR! Who’s spreading the rumours?
Blame it on rumours or otherwise, reports did the rounds earlier this week that Vijaibab Sardesai may have to face an FIR over last week’s uproar at the Margao Health Centre. It isn’t, however, clear who was behind the reports since it’s an open secret that the Health Minister shares a close rapport with the Goa Forward chief. This brings to the core question whether anyone in the government or outside had issued instructions to lodge an FIR against the Fatorda MLA. Even Vijaibab is trying to find out the truth behind these rumours.
Why is Damu blaring? Only time will tell
BJP leader Damu Naik’s outburst against rival Vijaibab Sardesai seemed to have unnerved many in Fatorda, including the rival camp. When the Goa Forward chief barged into the Margao Urban Health Centre to protest the vaccination of front line workers, many might have expected the Health Minister to do the talking. Instead, one found Damu taking to the social media against Vijaibab, taking observers by surprise. Sources are trying to figure out whether Damu’s aggressiveness is a result of diktats from saffron top brass or simply preparation for the 2022 election. Only time will tell.
