Eyebrows raised over Girish’s sudden tirade

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 26, 2022, 12:21 AM IST

Has ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar finally come out of political hibernation? This question is doing the rounds in Congress circles and outside as Girishbab came out with a statement, directed at the government on police recruitments. Even as the GPCC chief released another statement during the weekend, this time on the SIT probing land-grab, Congress workers were left to wonder what exactly is Girishbab’s game plan – to add strength to the party’s tirade on the government or simply to convey a message to friends and foes not to write him off in the scheme of things. Any questions.

Will govt officials attend Sunday Dialogues?

All eyes are focused on Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s Sunday Dialogues, restarting from Sunday, but for a different reason -- Will the government officials, including officials of departments such as MMC make their presence felt at the Goemkar Ghor, the MLA’s office, which also doubles up as the Goa Forward Party’s headquarters? That Vijaibab has preferred to send letters inviting the officials for the Sunday Dialogues, indicates the MLA is keen to have the presence of the officials, as well as to record if the officials are conspicuous by their absence.

Why delay in appointing Ravindra Bhavan chief?

Ravindra Bhavan, Margao has a full-fledged officer after the government posted Agnelo Fernandes as its Member Secretary. Many an eyebrow is being raised in political circles over the government’s delay in appointing the chairman to head the Ravindra Bhavan. Even Art & Culture Minister Govindbab Gaude has conceded that the appointment of the Chairman rests with the Chief Minister. Has CM Pramodbab Sawant reserved the post for party general secretary Damubab Naik, or is the former Fatorda MLA not keen to preside over the Ravindra Bhavan again. Wait and watch.

Mauvin episode: Oppn in wait & watch mode

When the government prosecutor again opposed Minister Mauvinbab Godinho’s plea for discharge in the power rebate scam, many might have thought the Opposition would grab the opportunity to put the Industries Minister and the government on the mat. For, observers say the power rebate scam issue had come on a platter for the Opposition Congress to take Mauvinbab and the government head on. However, there wasn’t any whisper from the Opposition. Or, is the Opposition waiting for the Court to pronounce verdict in Mauvin’s plea for discharge next week.

All eyes on Quepem MLA

Congress Quepem MLA Alton D’Costa is another Congress MLA from down South, who seems averse in defecting from the party to embrace the saffron brigade. The first time  MLA, who had emerged as a giant killer in the 2022 polls, after upsetting Congress-turned-BJP leader Babu Kavlekar’s applecart, has told his close aides that he would stay put in the Congress come what may. Sources say Alton, who has interests in the real estate and hospitality sector, was perceived in political circles as a close aide and Diggu loyalist. Any questions?
