Police lurking around civil society in Salcete

THE GOAN NETWORK | JULY 03, 2022, 12:30 AM IST

Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s men-in-uniform seemed to be working overtime to monitor the movements of the civil society in Saxttidom. Consider this. It was a week ago when one came across police personnel deployed outside a venue where Goyant Kollso Naka was scheduled to address the media to announce its plans to serve a stop-work order on the Railways to stop double tracking works. It isn’t clear whether the men-in-uniform were around to provide security for the activists, or were simply around to satisfy their masters. Any questions?

When cops denied civil society to hold protest

Is Fatorda witnessing a spurt in Covid cases? Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane may rubbish such a claim. Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s men-in-uniform, however, seem to believe there’s either a spurt in Covid cases in Fatorda, or used Covid platform to reject permission for the civil society to hold peaceful protest at the district Collectorate building to express solidarity with detained human rights activists. Ironically, the very same Fatorda police had no objection when the CM descended at Ravindra Bhavan on Friday to attend a book release function. Fatorda police is indeed under the scanner of the civil society.

All eyes on alliance partners in MMC

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai minced no words when he went to the public during the weekend that he is not only hurt, but termed as breach of trust over what has happened in the Margao civic body over the appointments of data entry operators. Madgavkars and Fatordekars have a question or two to the Fatorda MLA -- What next? Having gone to the public to express his sentiments, the next question that may arise is whether Vijaibab is ready to sever ties with Margao Civic Alliance partner Diggu? Wait and watch as Vijaibab seemed not ruling out anything in the Margao Municipal Council.

Cong forward: Firebrand Yuri taking the lead

Many might have been left to wonder a couple of months ago what message Opposition leader Michaelbab Lobo tried to convey when he remarked that Cuncolim MLA Yuribab Alemao has the fire in his belly to take the party forward. Three months down the lane, the low-key and unassuming Yuribab seemed emerging as the party’s voice from down South. At a time when the seniors, including MLAs are tight-lipped over a host of issues, for reasons best known to them, Yuribab has fired guns at the ruling dispensation, much to the surprise of party leaders. Any questions?

Now, builders to keep Margao & Fatorda green?

A clean and green Margao and Fatorda has been the agenda of local politicos over the years. It’s another matter that the city has been struggling to address the Sonsodo imbroglio. And, it’s not known whether the changes in the land zones have helped maintain greenery in the commercial capital. Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar, who heads the South Goa Planning body, however, has come out with a solution to keep Margao and Fatorda green -- by getting the builders plant saplings right at the construction stage itself. Do local MLAs Diggu and Vijaibab have anything to say on Daji’s proposal?
