When five Cong MLAs gave b’day bash a miss

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | AUGUST 07, 2022, 12:41 AM IST

Hazard a guess why were the five Congress MLAs including Yuribab Alemao and Altone D’Costa conspicuous by their absence at Diggu’s grandchild birthday at the Grand Hyatt last Sunday. Well, if sources are to be believed, these five MLAs were told to stay away by the Party High Command as a matter of abundant caution, to ensure there’s no poaching bid at the bash. Obeying the High Command diktat, the five Congress MLAs not only stayed away from the birthday celebration, but a couple of them flew out of the State and returned home only after the celebrations. Any questions?

Altone puts speculations at rest

Congress MLA Altonbab D’Costa might have invoked the Almighty to put at rest speculations that he would not defect from the party to embrace the saffron brigade. His phones, however, have not stopped ringing. A Congress party MLA, who has set his eyes on a Cabinet berth in the BJP dispensation, has still not lost hope of roping in Altone in order to join the BJP. Altonbab, sources said, is now tired of hearing the same old story, that the Congress has no future, after the grand old party’s vote share dipped in 2022. Any takers?

Venzy’s call to CM raises eyebrows

What’s AAP MLA Capt Venzybab’s relationship with the BJP Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant? Well, the first time AAP MLA was at the Cutbona fishing jetty along with Velim AAP MLA Cruzbab Silva on Saturday to address navigational issues plaguing the fishing vessels. To the surprise of boat owners, Venzy called up the CM, who is holed up in Delhi, to discuss the issue. That’s not all. The CM obliged the Captain after he gave an assurance to the fishermen over the phone, completely taken aback by those present over the growing bonhomie between the CM and the first time AAP MLA.  Any takers?

Canacona GF leader leaves behind differences

Those attending Goa Forward general secretary Durgadas Kamat’s birthday celebrations at Goemkar Ghor must have been taken aback to find party senior leader Prashantbab Naik at the birthday bash. This is perhaps the first time the firebrand former PSU student leader made his presence felt at the Goa Forward party headquarters post-election. Prashantbab’s supporters had apparently felt let down, suspecting the party leadership did not make a forceful claim for the Canacona seat during the seat-sharing agreement with the Congress. Wait and watch.

When Cong MLA was promised Edu portfolio

A Congress MLA, who was figuring in the list of MLAs to embrace the BJP, is believed to have told his close aides that he was indeed ready to join the saffron brigade last month, after being informed that all the MLAs, barring him, were all set to switch sides. The MLA makes no mince of the fact that he was promised the prized Education portfolio in the event he joins the ruling party. Any takers, when the BJP does not normally prefer to retain the Education portfolio to be handled by the cadre.
