Chess Olympiad torch relay held in Goa

The Chess Olympiad Torch that went around the country ahead of the 44th Fide Chess Olympiad 2022 being held in Chennai, arrived in Goa and was given a grand welcome on Sunday.

The torch was received by Sports Minister Govind Gaude at Kranti Maidan, Ponda at 6.30 am and thereafter was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda where a function was held by the State Government to felicitate prominent chess players from Goa.

A cultural programme was held at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir as artistes performed various dance forms, which was choreographed by Deepak Amonkar. Gaude felicitated Grandmaster Anurag Mhamal, Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni, Grandmaster Leon Mendonca and International Master Amey Audi.

The Torch Relay will now head to Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, the torch was received by Anurag Mhamal before he handed it over to the Sports Minister.
