Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce & Economics (GGPR), Ponda, under the aegis of GVM (Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal), successfully hosted an enlightening session on “The National Sports Policy (NSP)” with the central theme: “Understanding the National Sports Policy 2025 in the Light of NEP 2020.” The event was coordinated by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

The programme was graced by the presence of Krishna Shetye, Chairman of GVM’s Working Committee, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Teotone Vaz, Principal of GGPR College, while Betty D’Silva, Director of Physical Education, served as the Organising Secretary and played a pivotal role in curating the event.

The highlight of the session was an insightful address by Jovito Lopes, veteran sports journalist and analyst, who served as the resource person. He also outlined strategic recommendations for integrating sports into mainstream education and fostering a robust sports culture from the grassroots level.

The session was conducted in collaboration with Karuna Football Foundation, a strategic partner in sports development for the college. Kennedy D’Silva, Director of the Foundation, contributed significantly to the planning and coordination of the event.

The programme also saw active participation from leaders and faculty members of sister institutions under the GVM umbrella. Among them were Dr. Jojen Mathew, Principal of GVM’s Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education, and Geeta Shastri, Principal of GVM’s S.N.J. Aguiar Higher Secondary School, who, along with their teams, engaged meaningfully in the discussions.

Over 100 teaching and administrative staff from the three institutions attended, reflecting a unified and enthusiastic interest in advancing awareness and implementation of the evolving sports policy framework.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, reinforcing GVM’s unwavering commitment to empowering educators with relevant policy knowledge to support the development of future-ready sports and education ecosystems.
