Bengal asserted complete control on the opening day of their Cooch Behar Trophy Elite (four-day) Group D match against Goa, reaching a strong 293 for 5 in 90 overs at stumps. The match is being played at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani from Monday.
Goa won the toss and opted to field first, but Bengal's top order capitalised on the good batting conditions. Openers Aditya Roy (79) and Atmaja Mondal (63) provided an excellent start with a 108-run partnership. Captain Chandrahas Dash (55) and wicketkeeper Abhiprai Biswas (56) further strengthened Bengal's position with well-crafted half-centuries.
At the close of play, Sayan Paul (33*) and Ashutosh Kumar (5*) remained unbeaten, guiding Bengal towards a commanding total.
For Goa, Shiven Borkar was the most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 56 runs. Samarth Rane (1/72), Mihir Kudalkar (1/68), and Yash Kasvankar (1/58) claimed a wicket each.
