Ketki Naik and Uma Korgaonkar emerged winners at the 2nd Women’s Doubles Badminton Tournament, organised by Inner Wheel Club of Mapusa in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA).
The winners edged out Ramona D' Souza and Maymol Rockey 15-12, 8-15, 15-11 in a closely fought final played at Peddem, Mapusa. Shambhavi Rao/Hina Kunji and Shailaja Kohli/Audrey Pereira settled for third place (losing semi-finalist) prizes.
In the power smashers contest, Asmita Kandolkar, Priyanka Fernandes, Steffi Fernandes and Sonali Bhatt emerged in the top-4 places, respectively. The tournament was organised for amateurs with a thought to bring the working ladies/housewives out of their regular routine, motivate them for physical fitness and explore themselves.
In all, 58 women participated in the special tournament.
Results: Winners - Ketki Naik & Uma Korgaonkar, Runners-up - Ramona D'Souza & Maymol Rockey, 3rd place - Shambhavi Rao/Hina Kunji & Shailaja Kohli and Audrey Pereira.
