Host Punjab defeated Goa 2-1 at the Mount Litera Zee School Ground on Saturday, knocking the visitors out of the Sub-Junior Boys National Football Championship 2025-26.

The home side dominated possession for most of the match but had to wait until the second half to make it count. Punjab started the game strongly, while Goa looked dangerous on the counterattack. Both teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

Punjab coach Charanjit Kumar’s halftime pep talk worked wonders, as Bhart Kumar scored in the 48th minute to give the hosts the lead. Six minutes later, Ajay doubled the advantage by finding the net past Goa goalkeeper Velison Fernandes. Goa fought back, and Elmer Fernandes pulled one back in the 65th minute following a cross from Ethan.

The 2-1 victory ensured Punjab topped the group with nine points from three wins, while Goa finished with three points after two defeats. Kerala secured second place. Punjab will advance to the semifinals with this win.
