Goa Senior Women's team topped Group D to qualify for the knock-out phase of the 26th Senior Women's National Football Championship at Calicut University ground, Kerala.
Goa beat neighbours Karnataka 3-0 in the last league match as Rezellia Almeida slammed a brace while vice-captain Sushmita Jhadav scored the other goal. The Juliet Miranda-coached team will play Group B winners Railways in the quarterfinals.
Goa scored the opener in the 17th minute through Rezellia, who scored with a snap shot. Boosted by the early goal, Goa intensified their game and controlled the midfield space. Rezillia then doubled the lead to put her team in the clear ascendancy. Goa continued to control the game and Sushamita Jadhav scored the team's third goal in the 40th minute.
The second session also continued in the same vein but Miranda's girls could not increase their tally. At the other end, Karnataka had few opportunities and hardly tested the rival defence.
