Police seize 1500 boxes of various liquor brands

The Crime Branch of Goa police busted a second major smuggling racket within a few days with the seizure of liquor worth Rs 1 crore from a truck at Merces on Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, the Crime Branch received information that a truck was illegally transporting the liquor from Goa to Belagavi.
Accordingly, police laid a trap and intercepted the truck at Merces. Some paint bags had been placed in the rear of the truck and when a police team searched further, they found around 1500 boxes containing liquor bottles of various brands. Police seized the liquor consignment as well as 35 bags of paint.
Police later arrested the truck driver, Hussain Sab Mulla (35) of Bijapur-Karnataka in this connection. A case has been registered and further investigation is being conducted by Inspector Lakshi Amonkar under the guidance of DySP Rajesh Kumar and SP Rahul Gupta
Incidentally, the Crime Branch had arrested 4 persons in connection with a similar liquor smuggling racket a few days ago and had seized liquor worth Rs 1.5 crore along with a truck.
