Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday submitted a complaint against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane at the Agacaim police station over the deaths of Covid patients at GMC due to mismanagement and lack of oxygen supply.

In the complaint, GPCC president Girish Chodankar has squarely laid the blame of these deaths on the Health Minister and the Chief Minister while terming it as an ‘intentional, rash and negligent act on their part which amounts to culpable homicide’ which resulted in the death of hundreds of patients from April 2021 till date at GMC.

Chodankar pointed out that despite the Goa Association of Resident Doctors flagging the oxygen shortage, the government failed to rectify the deficiencies.

“On the contrary, government officials now after 15 days of letter from GARD, say that deaths are taking place in GMC due to logistical issues in supply of oxygen,” he stated.

The GPCC chief further pointed out that despite knowing that there was an interruption in supply of oxygen during the dark hours, the Health Minister and the government headed by Sawant did nothing to address the issue and patients continued to die.

“For this inexcusable act they should be severely punished,” Chodankar demanded.

While speaking to the media, Chodankar insisted that the complaint was lodged in public interest and to seek justice for the families of the deceased patients.
