GTDC records net profit for third straight year; to seek more funds from Centre

Goa Tourism Development Corporation Limited (GTDC) posted a satisfactory profit for the third consecutive financial year in 2014-15, with an all-time high turnover of Rs 28.05 crore.

Similarly, the profit before depreciation after setting off all the expenses/adjustments stood at Rs 2.68 crore.

The corporation paid Rs 3.46 crore in the form of taxes to the government. These include luxury tax (Rs 89.56 lakh), central service tax (Rs 168.5 lakh), road and municipal tax (Rs 66.09 lakh) and entertainment tax (Rs 22.46 lakh).

GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral informed also put forth GTDC's plans of procuring funds from the central government for improving tourism infrastructure in the Goa. He said, "A proposal for funding an amount Rs 200 crore has been sent to the central ministry. We are looking forward for the launch of the integrated GTDC web-portal, which will sell rooms and packages to tourists from all over the world”.

Commenting on the stellar earnings review, Cabral added, “Goa Tourism Development Corporation has scaled new heights because it is one of the most vibrant and professional tourism corporations in the country. It has introduced new services and tourism initiatives such as hot air balloon, seaplanes, amphibious vessels, women taxi service, white water rafting and so on. It is also in the process of improving accommodation facilities at all its residencies. The Panaji Residency has already been given a facelift.”
