The State registration department was in a spot of bother after the online portal for registration of marriage suffered a glitch inconveniencing several people.
The issue was with the OTP (one time password) which could not be generated by the users despite several attempts.
In order to login to the portal, a user needs to generate a Token ID which can be done only after typing in the OTP.
Users were left fuming as the system failed to generate the OTP and therefore they could not complete the marriage registration process.
A resident of Bastora who had gone to the Bardez sub-registrar’s office for the second registration of
his marriage had to wait for the whole day for the same reason.
The officials at the sub-registrar office kept the public waiting as they too were unable to generate the OTP in order to complete the online process.
“The officials repeatedly kept on pleading with us to wait for 15 minutes until it was 1.30 in the afternoon. When we asked them what was the problem they told us it was a technical issue,” the Bastora resident informed.
He said they entered the sub-registrar at 9.30 am and finished the registration process at around 4.30 pm in the evening.
“We were not alone. There were several other couples who had to undergo the same ordeal having to wait throughout the day,” he said.
The Civil Registrar cum Sub-Registrar, Bardez, Arjun Shetye admitted that there was some technical issues with the online portal.
“It’s an issue all over Goa. But we have managed to clear all those who have approached our office,” Shetye said.
Calls made to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) which hosts the marriage registration portal went unanswered.
It may be recalled the online marriage registration portal was recently launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Law Minister Nilesh Cabral.
